Between the two major types of international organizations, i.e. IGOs and INGOs, which ones are more effective and useful? Why or why not? Provide three reasons and explain them with examples.
IGO and NGO work for the benefit of the people. They do good for suffering individuals and the degraded arena of civilization. IGO refers to Intergovernmental organizations, whereas NGOs refer to Non-governmental organizations. IGOs are multilateral organizations, and they conduct their operation on large scales. NGOs are not multilateral in the hierarchy, and they regulate actions in limited areas. Volunteering association and a passionate group of individuals organize NGOs. They establish in the context of a particular pack of countries and societies stated on bases of some humanitarian grounds. There does exist some significant difference between IGO and NGO. IGO is an extended form of NGO. IGO is an NGO only; the only discrepancy is that it functions on significant platforms and covers a good number of countries in its mechanism.
IGO is more popular as compared to NGOs. Intergovernmental organizations work for so many countries in the world. Naturally, they gain more prominence than NGOs, which are active in a particular country. Let’s take an example to get this notion in a better way. The World Bank is a popular IGO, and almost everyone knows about its existence. It is quite widespread in terms of its actions and the aid which it provides to major countries. If we take an NGO, let’s say, Lepra society which functions only in India majorly. Only people who are in India or those who associate with it know about it. Thus prominence and reach is a significant difference between IGO and NGO.NGOs majorly operate their functions in a particular country only. They have the power to fluctuate societal norms and actions in a single country. IGO functions at a much higher level than a typical NGO. International Governmental Organizations work for the welfare of people in two or more than two countries. Sometimes their work also includes working for a large number of countries. NGO, on the other hand, is quite limited in its functioning. It carries its work in a particular country and thrives hard to bring in all functional changes there.
The IGOs such as the UN and NATO and G7 have advanced their activities and become more important in the last decades. The evolving role of IGOs shows that they will remain key actors in global system. UNICEF,WHO,REDCROSS are the examples on non governmental organization, these organization which aren't owned by any government of any country.
