Question

In: Chemistry

Most chemical reactions leave either unreacted chemical (like in the limiting reagent problem) or produce unwanted chemicals.

  1. Most chemical reactions leave either unreacted chemical (like in the limiting reagent problem) or produce unwanted chemicals. Why is it important to identify and remove these impurities from reactions involving food sand pharmaceuticals?
  2. Terms like solution, acid, base, electrolyte and dilution are used commonly in everyday life. Choose a term from this unit that you commonly hear and explain in what context do you hear it. It the context positive or negative and why.
  3. Oxidation of metals is very common in everyday life. Give an example of where metal oxidation is seen. How does this impact society and at what level?

Expert Solution

1. Whenever we talk about a chemical reaction, there are always reactants and products and if there is an addition reaction, there is only a single product ; if there is a condensation reaction then there is always a side product. So it is very important for us to know which product is in need orhor whether the side product will effect the main product according to that we separate the products within our need.

In food industry there is always a need to separate the impurities as not all components are healthy for our digestive system or our metabolism. So so if there is a reaction which gives us a food colouring dye and along with that we get any poisonous by product then it is very important to remove it or separate it by any means as if it enters our system it will cause damage.

2. I will talk about dilution here. Dilution is a phenomenon where any concentration is is diluted with the solvent or in other words we can say that if there is a solution with particular amount of solute be diluted by adding more of the solvent. This is is basically needed in laboratories for the process of titration oil purification or if we need an accurate percentage for composition of a solute in in order to perform a particular chemical reaction.

For example if I I have a substance and it is in a solution which is highly concentrated then I will have to add water into it so that the concentration of the solution decreases or we can say the dilution of the solution increases.

3. oxidation of metals play a very important roles in a life because in our body itself there are many metabolic processes which include many of the transition metals in our system in order to work properly.

Metal such as iron, lead ,calcium, magnesium in all +2 oxidation State. If these metals are present in the human body in any other oxidation State then it will not work properly and therefore the body is most likely to collapse.

Also so the oxidation of metals is important in mining processes because it tells us majorly whether a compound is magnetic in nature or or not and therefore we can easily find methods to separate it from its mineral ore.

This was some real life examples of the questions as above and I hope you understand the concept and provide us with a favourable feedback.
