One of the MOST important concepts to remember when dealing with a patient who has a stoma is:
A: A stoma patient requires very special equipment for emergency ventilations
B: You are required to use a pocket mask to ventilate these patients.
C: The victim will likely need suctioning prior to ventilations.
D: You should use an infant bag-valve-mask device for these patients.
Stoma refers to an opening in the body which can be natural(nostril, oral cavity, ears) or artificial (ventilation tracheal tube insertion, colostomy)
The presence of a tracheostomy tube can make it easier to ventilate a patient in an emergency who has a stoma. If the patient doesn't have it then an infant or a child BVM (bad valve mask) can be used. Special equipment is not needed but a special tracheostomy mask is needed to ventilate these type of patients.
In case of medication administration, the tracheostomy mask can be used to deliver medicine through the stoma
Ans:D: Tou should use an infant bag-valve-mask device for these patients
