Write a few sentences about how these term relate to the Coronavirus life cycle
+ strand RNA virus
Sense vs. antisense
Receptor-mediated endocytosis
Answer-
1. + strand RNA virus- coronavirus has RNA as genetic material. This RNA is positive sence single stranded and encodes various proteins like replicase/transcriptase polyprotein and structural proteins like spike, envelope, membrane and nucleocapsid proteins. As Coronavirus has + strand RNA as genome it is member of + strand RNA virus.
2. Sence vs. Antisense- viral genome is positive sence RNA(sence , nontemplate, coding strand) which is used to synthesize negative sence RNA(antisense, template, noncoding strand). Then negative sence RNA is used to synthesize positive sence genome. Then both types of RNA used for different purposes. The positive sence RNA is used to synthesize antisense RNA then antisense RNA strand is used to transcribe into proteins.
3. Receptor mediated endocytosis- when virus enters into host, firstly viral spike glycoprotein forms interaction with host cell receptor and then host protease enzyme cleaves receptor attached spike protein, this causes activation of spike protein. Due to this both steps host cell allows entry of virus and this process is known as receptor mediated endocytosis.
