The two child maltreatment prevention studies discussed at the end of this chapter focused on altering behavior within the family microsystem, but other ecological systems beyond the family are relevant. Describe one strategy that social policy makers might follow to reduce the number of potential child maltreatment victims. How would you know that the strategy was working?
Name of the policy: Urging the parents to allow the children to play with other children at park or field.
Social interaction theory: According to the social interaction theory the child needs social interaction to get rapid socialization. Every child is inquisitive by nature. They want to know many things. Through social interactions they get the information of their surroundings. When a child is confined at home he becomes victim of many types of disorder. When the child behaves in the wrong way they are mal-treated and the problem becomes more chronic.
By mass campaign the social workers should make people aware about the problems of the children and the parents must be made aware that the children are not responsible for their odd behavior. It is the environment that does not suit with them. They need proper environment. They should have proper socialization.
It is the common matter that after 5 years of age the child wants to play with other children. They want to get more social contact to satisfy their inquisitiveness. They acquire the knowledge of society and the social norms through social interaction.
