Compare and contrast:
1. Between-subjects with within-subjects designs
2. Small N designs with large N designs.
In what circumstances would you use the within-subjects design and in what circumstances would you use the large N design?
1) Between subject designs is where the participants can be of the treatment group or the control group but not both. For example in a college students four classes are selected and each group is given a different program maintaing the same control group .In the all the groups are teated to see which program was best implemented. The advantages of this design is every participant is subjected to only one treatment and they are not subjected to mulitple tests.
Within Subject designs is contrary, every single participant is subject to every single treatment and control group varies. For example a researcher tests the effects of stress on children before the exam and after the exam. The advantages of this test is it requires fewer participants and easy planning helps the researchers to carry out the task.
2) Small N designs only few subjects are tested ,data is analyzed with minimal use of statisitcs.researcher gain control over variables.Large N designs does not use variations and compares the perfomance of the group of subjects.Researchers prefer to use Small n designs to large N designs.
