Some desert theorists and others, argue that rehabilitation is highly punitive and overly intrusive. Overly intrusive, in fact, to the point that many rehabilitative sentences are disproportionately harsh. Do you agree with this? Discuss some examples to help support and clarify your view.
Rehabilitation is a process of reforming a criminal in society to a previous esteemed position of rank in society. It is a work with the mutual agreement of the social working non-governmental organization. Under the Pennsylvania system the prisoners are reformed to read bible and other mythological books and be fearful to God and repent for their wrong deeds in the society. The Auburn system encourages the use of labor force to encourage the prisoners to earn their daily wages in the society. The Medical model is considered a model for rehabilitation of the prisoners in the society. The Federal Bureau of Prisoners in 1930's established the rules for judging the punishment provided to the prisoners and the intensity of punishment depends upon the electroconvulsive therapy, psychotherapy, surgical and chemical castration. Welsch in 1996, proposed the state of art therapy for the treatment of the offenders and diagnosis of their diseases in society.Martinson proposed harsher terms, rules and regulations for the punishment of the offenders along with their rehabilitation in the society. There are a lot of educational and training programs in the various regions of America like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and washington state.The Oregon state Correctional institution in Salem offers rehabilitation and computer programming fundamentals to the rehabilitation persons and other crminal victims in the society. There are various incentives provided to the persons in rehabilitation like better living conditions, parole or security support for policemen, fertility in a specific environment, insurance with health plans, and salary offer after the completion of their sentence in prison as a form of rejuvenation and repentance with purification of their soul in society. The women in prison are provided jobs involving stitching, sewing and tailoring with awareness camps of maintaining fertility and personal health and hygiene in the society.
