Hello!

Um, I don't understand the how to use the IP address and the subnet mask to find Via/Next hop, Metric, or the interface aspects of the question.

Every system or equipment has its own gate way to access that equipment ment. To interface or communicate or to change any configaration of that equipment , we have to login through that gate way , to access that system our gate way should be same as that of gateway adress. Our computer ip address is increment of gateway adress.

For subnet mask is same almost same for all same kind of equipment

For example if we want know the next hop some internet modem details

To access that details of modem we have to access through gateway so our computer gateway should be gateway op address of that modem

Most of modems have gate way ip address is 192.168.1.1

So our gate way ip is 192.168.1.1

Our system ip is increment of gateway IP

For example 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.255

Subnet mask is same for both systems 255.255.255.0

In this way we we interface with different systems logic is we need same gateway for all systems , different systems have individual ips like 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4 and so on.

Thank you..
