The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act is a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. President Barack Obama signed the Act on 17 February 2009. The HITECH Act seeks to enhance the quality of healthcare and to allow patients to invest in innovative information technology for health. The use of electronic health records, HER's for patients, is of particular importance. The HITECH Act sets a benchmark in the United States. Healthcare by increased compliance of HIPPA, eHR control, corporate police and breaches.

Improving the implementation of HIPPA is a benchmark given the capacity to execute HIPPA. The law provides for mandatory punishments for deliberate misconduct.
