Why should we worry about knock-offs of luxury goods? What ethical issues exist?
If you were a landlord, would you turn a blind eye to counterfeit sales? Should landlords be held responsible if they don't know about the sales.
We should worry about the ethical issues governing the knock-off luxury goods due to the following:
We unknowingly harm the reputation of the luxury brands whose
counterfeit goods one is creating and selling across in the market
for no fault of those brands that diligently strive to put the best
products before its customers. The counterfeit can certainly not
match the standards of those luxury goods.
The actual revenues of the Company that prepares such luxury goods
get inadvertently stolen away by those customers that prefer to buy
cheaper luxury goods or b those who trade in the counterfeits of
such luxury goods. These parties hence contribute to the unethical
labor market.
There is a high scope of tax evasion on the part of the people
engaged with knock-offs of luxury goods which is hence both legally
and ethically wrong as it does not give the Government the due
amount which it is eligible for, to run the country’s
affairs.
Also, since it doesn’t come under Government supervision, such
counterfeit market doesn’t follow any safety guidelines or
guarantee pertaining to the know-off goods, thereby enabling an
extra word of caution for the users. Such products may potentially
cause various harm to the users.
The funds raised from selling off these counterfeit goods can in
turn be used to fund the Organized crime such as drug-dealing,
etc.
Ignorant customers may fail to guess the right product and hence
might be tricked into buying a fraud one.
If you were a landlord, would you turn a blind eye to counterfeit sales? Should landlords be held responsible if they don't know about the sales.
Answer: Certainly not. As a landlord, I would not have turned a blind eye to counterfeit sales. The above reasons are sufficient enough to prove my stance. I cannot to prefer ignorant thinking it is bliss for my business. Dealing in knock-offs of luxury goods is a serious criminal affair. I shall be indirectly a part of their business for no real involvement of mine. Hence, it shall always be preferable to promote legal businesses in my property. Further, there could be a risk of imprisonment for the landlord that forms an underlying requirement for the illegal activity. Hence, being alert and avoiding such business in my property shall be my utmost priority.
