A child fell in the playground and cut her hand on a piece of glass. The cut extended across her wrist from the lateral border to the midline, just distal to the trapezium bone. The cut was deep and the physicians in emergency were concerned about a possible peripheral nerve lesion. Which nerve were they probably most concerned about and what motor and sensory tests would they do to check if this nerve had been damaged?.The child’s mother had been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. How would the pattern of injury in the mother’s hand differ from that of the child? Position your hand in the way you think the hand would appear with each of the two lesions described.
Child injuries are one of the Global health problems and this is
one of the common which is observed in teenagers. It is important
to protect the child from different bump scrapes or Falls during
childhood as they are responsible to cause any type of problems in
the child.
In this case, the child is felt down in the playground and cut her
hand on the piece of the glass. This is extended towards the
midline of her wrist and trapezium bone. The physician is also
concerned about the peripheral nerve lesion, which is probably
concern about the sensory test and which involves the damage of the
peripheral nerve. One can also observe the sensory nerve damage by
presenting the symptoms like sensitivity, pain, and numbness. The
child's mother is diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in which
numbness and tingling in hand in are caused due to pinched nerve in
the wrist. This is the kind of condition in which major nerves of
the hand which is known as the median nerve is compressed and
squeeze as the travel through the wrist. If the carpal tunnel
syndrome is not treated then this may lead to cause the weakness
and lack of coordination in finger and thumb. One can relieve the
pressure on the nerves to decrease the symptoms.
Both damage and injury of child and mother at different because the
child faced an injury in which cut is observed while the syndrome
that the child's mother has is a carpal tunnel syndrome. By
positioning the hand in the way that I think and would appear in
which both conditions can be described is keeping the right hand in
a straight manner.
