Choose whether the following blood vessels constricted, dilated, or remained the same as exercise began.

a. Arterioles supplying blood to the skeletal muscles will be (constricted-dilated-stayed the same)

b. Arterioles supplying blood to the kidneys will be (constricted-dilated-stayed the same)

c. Arterioles supplying blood to the skin will be (constricted-dilated-stayed the same)

d. Arterioles supplying blood to the cardiac muscle will be(constricted-dilated-stayed the same)

e. Veins carrying blood back from the legs will be( constricted-dilated-stayed the same)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer a). Arterioles supplying blood to the skeletal muscles will be (constricted-dilated-stayed the same)-----> Dilated

During exercise Skeletal muscles require more amount of Oxygen to meet Metabolic needs so blood vessels with Beta 2 receptor get activated and result in vasodilation to increase the flow of blood

b. Arterioles supplying blood to the kidneys will be (constricted-dilated-stayed the same)-----> Constricted

During exercise sympathetic stimulation cause release of Adrenaline which Cause Vasoconstriction of Arterioles and decrease in flow of blood in kidney so extra amount of blood is shunted for other vital organs .

c. Arterioles supplying blood to the skin will be (constricted-dilated-stayed the same)----> Constricted

To shunt the blood to vital organs like heart and Brain there occurs Constriction in Skin vasculature .

d. Arterioles supplying blood to the cardiac muscle will be(constricted-dilated-stayed the same)-----> Dilated

To meet the Metabolic needs of body Cardiac Output should increase and for this blood vessels should dilate to increase the blood flow to Heart .

e. Veins carrying blood back from the legs will be( constricted-dilated-stayed the same)----> Constricted.

Veins supplying Skeletal muscles Constricted so as to Increase the flow of blood towards the heart to increase the Venous return and increase the Cradiac output .
