Discussion: Why is embryology and histology important for a dental assistant to know?

Understanding of histology and embryology is important for dental assistant to know because it will give knowledge about structure, development and growth of teeth, oral cavity, salivary glands, etc. It helps to understand facial development, dental hygiene, dental pathology and dental abnormalities like dental caries,etc. Histology and embryology will teach dental assistant about development and structure of cells and tissues, the different stages of development and maturation of teeth, the knowledge about tissue, cells, tissue fluids and the different parts of a human teeth such as tooth enamel, dentin, pulp, cementum, nerves attached to teeth, etc. Hence by having a proper knowledge about embryology and histology a dental assistant can plan and design the best treatment for a patient suffering from dental disease or dental abnormalities. It will make the dental assistant expert in tooth extraction, root canaling and other treatment options for teeth.
