Muscles stabilizing scapula are
1)TRAPEZIUS -
** origin:medial third of superior nuchal line, external protuberance, ligamentum nuchae, C7 to C12 vertebrae
**Insertion :superior fibres to clavicle, middle fibres to acromion and crest of spine of scapula, lower fibres to deltoid tubercle.
**Action:upward rotation and elevation for superior fibres. Middle fibres helps in retraction. Lower fibres helps in upward rotation and depression.
2) RHOMBOIDEUS MAJOR AND MINOR
**Origin :Rhomboideus major from second to fifth thoracic vertebrae. Minor originates from spines of 7th cervical and 1st thoracic vertebrae.
**Insertion :Major to medial border of scapula. Minor to root of spine of scapula.
**Action: Retraction and medial rotation
3) SERRATUS ANTERIOR
**Origin :1st eight ribs
**Insertion :Antero medial aspect of scapula
**Action :Protraction, Lateral rotation
4)LEVATOR SCAPULAE
**Origin :Transverse processes of C1 to C4
**Insertion :Medial border of scapula
**Action:Elevation, Medial rotation
****Pectoralis minor also helps in protraction and depression of scapula.
