Imagine Penn State were to hold summer events for High school students. Should it include freshman and sophomores? Or be open to all high school students & their families titled "College 101." What should Penn State do? What do families and students need to know at that point in their highschool to start considering? Who should they listen to? What do you wish you would have known then to help set you up for success? Would a panel discussion be helpful? If so, what panels? College admissions essay reviewers? College students? What should they see? Is there anything they should know about why you chose Penn State? Since it's high school and most of the students would be local, what are some selling points?
If Penn State were to hold a Summer Events for high school students, i think that it should be open to all high school students with title "College 101", for helping the freshers who are new to their careers and in the initial stage of their grooming process so that they can identify their talent, skills, passion and interests through participating in these summer events. Since they are new to the field and very distracted , these summer events will help, guide and support them in determining the ways to excel in their career fields and to put their inner strengths into practice and will boost their confidence too.
Penn State should organise various events for high school students which will motivate them for staying focused to their field and unleashing their true potential. They should organise various seminars, workshops, orientations etc for guiding and directing the students in their academic and career planning, and help them identity opportunities in their careers and imparting training to learn techniques to improve study habits and showcase their hidden talents.
The families at that point in their highschool need to start considering the specifications they will choose for their kids so that their Interests and proficiency matches and aligns properly with the career option and academical course which they are going to choose. And students should start considering the field in which they are most interested and want to further excel. They should be able to understand the various courses and options available to them for their career development. They should listen to their mentors or counsellor who can guide them towards ways that will make them most productive.
I wish I would have known how I can further my career in each alternative available instead of just knowing about the course subjects and content so that I could judge better about how I can groom my self in future period. Having more comprehensive knowledge about future opportunities in each course or field of study have made me take better decisions to choose the option which could help me succeed.
Yes a panel discussion will be very useful for students. The panel discussions which would be attended by high school students as well as great counsellors can help them in discussing and contemplating into the advantages and disadvantages of each course and what they can yield which can provide a better view and understanding to students and also help them in making better and informed choices. College admissions essay reviewing can also prove helpful in reflecting on what abilities do students possess. They should see the proficiency if students in the field.
Yes they should know everything about why and how we arrived at Penn State so that they can see whether they can fit in the environment. They should know how Penn State helps us to excel, how supportive the staff is, what career development opportunities does it present etc.
Some of the selling points will be the reputation and recognition of the Institute, the previous achievements of students and excellence achieved, the facilities being provided etc
