In a Survey respondents were asked whether or not they had a Facebook account. Of men 215 men, 70 had an active facebook profile, while 347 had 85 active profiles. Given that facebook has had an approximately 50 million users.
A) Are these two population dependent or independent? Explain
B)Find the point estimate for each population rounded to two decimals.
C) Can we say that this is normally distributed data? why?
D) Are there more males than females on facebook? Construct and interpret an alpha .1 hypothesis test.
(A)
These two populations are independent.
Explanation: Population 1: Respondents who are men with Facebook account and Population 2: Respondents who are females with Facebook account are independent.
(B)
Point Estimate for Population 1 = 70/215=0.3256
Point Estimate for Population 2 = 85/347= 0.2450
(C) Since the Sample Sizes n1 = 215 and n2 =347 both are >30, Large Sample, by Central Limit Theorem, we can say that this is normally distributed data.
(D)
Pooled Proportion is given by:
Test Statistic is given by:
= 0.10
One Tail - Right Side Test
From Table, critical value of Z = 1.28
Since calculated value of Z = 2.079 is greater than critical value of Z = 1.28, the difference is significant. Reject null hypothesis.
Conclusion:
The data support the claim that there are more males than females on facebook.
