Drinking a glass of water, or drinking anything, seems like such a simple, voluntary movement. Yet, it involves so much muscle and nerve interaction. Can you go into some detail on the nerves that are involved. How about the cranial nerve that allows us to swallow?
ANS)
Drinking a glass of water or drinking anything is just a voluntary movement and which involves lots of muscle and that muscles are:
All the above mentioned muscles are triggered at the time of drinking activity.
* The drinking activity institute a feedback, a flood of neural inflow obtain from the mouth sensation, involving the mitigation of the dry mouth and this would flows up the cranial nerve 5(trigeminal nerve),taste by chorda tympani involved in cranial nerve 7( facial nerve),pharyngo-esophageal stimulations measuring the volume swallowed by Cranial nerve 9( Glossopharyngeal) and lower.
* The swallowing reflex could be started completely by the peripheral stimulation of internal limb of superior laryngeal nerve. This stage is voluntary and includes major Cranial nerves like,
Trigeminal Nerve - CN 5
Facial Nerve - CN 7
Hypoglossal - CN 12
