I h the book: The Stranger by Albert Camus - Summarize the overall plot and theme, in particular as it relates to religion and faith. Point to evidence that persuades you that this is the theme. Relate the events or theme to at least one religion you have been learning about in this course. Such as Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, or Taoism.
"The stranger" is written by French author in the year 1942. In this story Mersault, the main character, is a man without feelings and one incapable of feeling remorse. He did not even cry at his mother's death, and not even seem terribly upset. They show again when he agrees to write a letter for a friend so that the friend can invite his ex-girlfriend back so he can beat her up. Mostly that are revealed when he shoots a stranger-an Arab after an altercation on the beach.
Meursault has a gf that he likes, but mostly he doesnt care about her one way or the other. These 2sentences says it all, "A minute later she asked me if I loved her. I told her it didnot mean anything but that I did not mean enything but that I didnot think so. She looked sad". And "That evening Matrie came by to see me and asked me of If I wanted to marry her, I said it didnot make any difference to me and that we would if she wanted to".
His bissat a shipping company asked him if he want to be transferred to a job in Paris. "Then he asked me if I wasnot interested in a change of life. I said that people never change their lives, that I'm any case one life was as good as another."
At his trail for the murder, he feels that the protector and his lawyer are arguing in a way that has nothing to do with him. He has a surge of feeling that he is dying to say something but then thinks "I didn't have any thing to say". When he is convicted and sentenced to death, he also acts as it is no big deal. But everything knows life is not worth living since we're all going to die. It's obvious that when, and how don't matter. The book is a classic early modern work of anomie, alienation and a general indifference to life.
I can rate to Buddhism to this book, because in Buddhism their is no belief in a personal God. Buddhist believe that nothing is fixed or permanent and that change is always possible.
Mersault also doesn't believe in any religion as he follows the philosophy that doesnt add any meaning to religion.
