Answer. The Specific criteria whice can be used to classify a given process as a living or controlled process in living polymerization is Chain growth polymerisation.
Addition polymerisation has the feaure of a chain reaction. The reactiove centre formed by the reaction of with a free radical , a cation ,& an anion. Polymerisation occures through the propagation of the active species by successive addition of a large no. of monomer molecules
The different steps are;-
a) Initiation; A free radical is highly reactive and can attack any molecule which either has a lone pair of electrom or is prepared to part with with one of its electron. The free radical attacks the double bond in the monomer molecule and produced a free radical with increase the number of carbon chain.
b) propagation; After initiation step, the radical site at the first monomer unit attacks the doublr bond of a fresh monomer molecule and free radical transfer from the first monomer unit to the 2nd by unpaired of electron.
c) termination: After propagation step, termination step comes. The growth polymer chain cease when the reaction centre is destroyed by one possible termination reaction.
