what do you know about the basics of genetics (Punnet Square, Dominant and recessive alleles)?
Please explain to me every single step in detail because I don't understand. Thank you!
Chromosomal basis of inheritance:
In 1902, Walter S. Sutton and T. Boveri proposed the theory f heredity.
This theory explains how cellular transmission or chromosomes passes genetic determinant (genes) from parent to offspring.
According to this theory-
1. Chromosomes contain genes that are transmitted from parent to offspring.
2. Chromosomes are replicated and passed along generation after generation from parent to offspring.
3. The nuclei of most eukaryotic cells contain chromosomes that are found in homologous pairs (diploid). One member of each pair is inherited from the mother, other from the father.
At meiosis, one of the two members of each pair segregate into one daughter nucleus and the other segregates into another daughter nucleus. Therefore, gametes contain one set of chromosomes (haploid).
4. During gamete formation, different types of chromosomes segregate independently of each other.
5. Each parent contributes one set of chromosomes to its offspring.
segregation of homologous chromosomes during meiosis explains Mendel's law of segregation.
Random alignment of tetrads during prophase of meiosis-I explains Mendel's law of independent assortment.
