The main differences between Packet switching and circuit switching networks

Packet switching network Circuit switching network
In packet switching there will no setup and tear down time In circuit switching network there will be setup time and tear down time because of connection eastablishment and connection release phase
In packet switching store and forward procedure will be used In circuit switching store and forward procedure is not used
Each packet may follow a different order in packet switching In circuit swicthing Each packet follow same path
Headers are required for every packet Headers are not required for every packet as every packet follows the same path one global header is enough
The data processing is done at intermediate nodes i,e routers also The data processing is done at only source nodes and destination nodes
Packets will be out of order in packet switching Packet will not be out of order in circuit switching
packet switching is not so reliable compared to circuit switching Circuit switching is more reliable
This is less costly This is more costly as the resource reservation requires
