What is indirect and direct communication in neurons?
Please categorize : Cardiac muscle , Smooth muscle, Skeletal muscle
Direct communication- electrical and chemical synapse are example of direct neural communication. In electrical synapse, presynaptic and postsynaptic neurons communicate via gap junction between two neuron. There is direct exchange of ions between two neuron.
In chemical synapse, the communication occur by release of neurotransmitter . Space between two neuron is called synaptic cleft. Neurotransmitters are released here.
Indirect communication- also called ephaptic coupling is also seen in nervous system. Communication between two neurons occur via exchange of ions or by influence of electrical fields. This type of communication is seen in olfactory neurons.
Cardiac muscle- these form musculature of heart . These muscles are striated and involuntary and supplied by autonomic nervous system.
Smooth muscle- situated in association with viscera. Also called visceral smooth muscle. It is different from skeletal and cardiac muscle because of absence of cross striations. Supplied by autonomic nervous system.
Skeletal muscle- situated in association with bones forming the skeletal system. The skeletal muscle are voluntary and straited. Supplied by somatic nerves.
