1. There are instances in which a marketing researcher wants to see if there is a relationship between the responses to one question and the responses to another question in the same survey. Identify the four types of possible relationships. Discuss how they are differentiated.
Ans:- The relationship between responses to one question and responses to another question in the same survey can give an idea about perception of an individual abou the topic. The various type of relationship can be:-
1. Positive relaton: - In this case the responses are positive for both the questions. The analyst can make a conclusion by these responses. For ex:- In a survey of a class of students if a question is who gets maximum marks and if answer is those who study 8 hours a day. Also there is aquestion that who is intelligent and if answer is those who study 8 hous a day. Then there is positive correlation that those who study 8 hours a day are intelligent.
2. Negative realtion:- When response in one question is opposite to that of another question. For ex:- In a survey of a class of students if a question is who gets maximum marks and if answer is those who study 8 hours a day. Also there is aquestion that who is intelligent and if answer is those who study only 4 hours but with attention. Then there is negative correlation between responses.
3. No relation:- When response to one question is not related to the response of other question. For ex:- In a survey of a class of students if a question is who gets maximum marks and if answer is those who study 8 hours a day. Also there is aquestion that who is intelligent and if answer is those whose parents are highly educated. Then there is no correlation between responses.
4. Partially related:- In this case the responses can be little related to each other. For ex:- In a survey of a class of students if a question is who gets maximum marks and if answer is those who study 8 hours a day. Also there is aquestion that who is intelligent and if answer is those who are attentive in class and do self study. Then there is partial correlation between responses.
