PLC is is an industrial digital computer. It is mostly used in Industrial Automation where as embedded systems is a branch in Electronics. It is a system which is a combination of Hardware and Software to perform specific task .

PLC basic component are central processing unit (CPU), a power supply and input/output (I/O) modules . Where as Microcontroller is basic component of embedded system .

Programming PLCs is less complicated because it revolves around ladder diagram where as emebedded system are complicated because of hardcore coding in a microcontroller .

PlLC are commonly used in production lines, road traffic signals, escalator and HVAC systems . Washing Machine, MP3 players, cell phones etc are examples of embedded system .
