What is Muscle fatigue? Grip Strength? How do they compare? What are some factors that effect both of them? Is grip strength the same for both hands?
Muscle fatigue
It is the decrease in the ability of muscle to generate the required force. Two main causes of muscle fatigue are
Reduced ability of muscle fiber to contract i.e metabolic fatigue. And limitations of nerve signal for a sustained signal i.e neural fatigue.
In muscle fatige the patient feels localised pain ,muscle cramps ,muscle twitching, and trembling occurs.
Factors effecting muscle fatigue are
Accumulation of lactic acid in the muscle.
Impaired blood flow to the muscles.
Ion imbalance in the muscles.
Grip strength.
It is the measure of muscle strength i.e the maximum force generated by forearm muscles.
Factors affecting grip strength.
Many factors affect grip strength includes they are
Nutritional availabilitity
Gender
Age
Position of the wrist and forearm
Oxygen availability, smoking, alchol .
Height , weight and body posture.
Grip strength is not same for both hands.
Grip strength is more for dominant hand and less for non dominant hand.As the grip strength depends on many factors so dominant hand more grip strength.
