Which species concept does the existence of “pizzly bears” violate?

Select one: a. Evolutionary species concept b. Ecological species concept c. Phylogenetic species concept d. Biological species concept

Solutions

Expert Solution

D, biological species concept

Pizzly bear is the hybrid between polar bear and grizzly bear. Since the habitat of both the bears (which was earlier different) has become same due to human interruption. They mated and gave birth to hybrid named pizzzly bears. According to Biological species concept,  when hybrid offsprings are given birth by mating of parents belonging to different species, the offspring remains sterile making it impossible to pass these hybrid genes. This is called as postzygotic barriers.

definition of Biological species concept- " Species are group of interbreeding natural population which is isolated reproductively from other such groups"

But in case of pizzly bears this is an exception becauses pizzly bears are fertile and can pass their genes . thus violating the reproductive isolation concept of  the biological species concept

Other species concept are not correct
