What is meant by the mum effect? How does it affect businesses?
Mum effect is the hesitation people develop when they have to deliver a bad news and they do not want to provide the negative emotions in mind of the new receiver. It can affect the business because it changes the way employees communicate within the company and how one would react and cope with failures. The employees need to be emotionally stable and should be able to digest the bad news soon. The people should follow the Mum Effect because the employees will get used to it and avoid being living in the real world. This will affect the manager and the subordinated communication and lead to a crack in the team. The employees will start developing different feeling towards all the team members and avoid the one who hides the real news. It basically increases the risks involved in the business because the communication chain will be broken and the people will not convey the message they are supposed to convey in order to keep the business running efficiently. Some employees will be uncertain of what should be done in a certain situation and fear the consequences. The manager of the team will lose the control and this will have a direct impact on the delivery and business.
