Breaking Strength: Breaking strength is the ability of a material to withstand a pulling or tensile force

that means a material is capable of withstanding without rupture when the tensile force is applied on the material.

It is basically measured in units of force per cross-sectional area.

This concept is used in engineering for examples in the fields of material science, mechanical engineering and structural engineering.

Toughness of material: Toughness is defined as the energy absorbed by a component just before its fracture.

Toughness is equal to total area of load vs deformation curve.

Toughness is ability of material to withstand impact.See fig for toughness.

Impact Resistance: Impact resistance is the ability of a material to withstand a high force or shock applied to it over a short period of time which means we apply high amount of force on the material for the short period of time.

A high force over a short time has a greater effect than a weaker force over a longer period of time. Therefore, the impact resistance properties of materials are important because we should considered them when are using material for production so that safety of material is determined.

Bending Strength: Bending strength of a material is defined as its ability to resist deformation under load.

Bending Strength is also known as flexural strength or modulus of rupture.

Bending Strength identifies the amount of stress and force in a unreinforced concrete slab other any structure that can withstand such that it resists any bending failures.

It is measured in terms of stress, here given the symbol σ
