The game of basketball was introduced to the women of Smith College in 1892. Since then the game has undergone numerous changes, expanding horizons for female athletes. Although there has been great progress for women in basketball, the game is not yet secure in its position in the United States. The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) is the most successful women’s league in the United States; however, the WNBA has lost money every year since its founding in the 1990s. In your view, what would it take for women’s basketball to receive great acceptance? How important is it to women’s sport overall for women to succeed in the WNBA?
For any sports to have greater acceptance and fan following, it is important that it has wonderful athletes and professional management of the sports. In the absence of professional and efficient management, no sports can be run successfully. The different popular sports at present are run by most professional and efficient management teams and they give a lot of importance to the marketing and presentation of the sports. Greater the presentation, greater will be the appeal of the sports.
So if the women's basketball has to be popularized and accepted widely, it has to have the professional team management and sports authority that can promote the sprits all over the country. At the same time, the athletes are also required to be highly competitive as spectators want to see the tussle between the highly skilled sportspersons, and if the matches are one-sided, boring with no competitive feelings, it will distract the audience and loss in the viewership.
It is very important to have the importance of women's sports as it will attract more viewers to sports. When the popularity of the women's sports would increase, the people will also start watching the WNBA or we can also state that if the WNBA becomes popular, it will also promote the women's sports so both are complementary of each other.
