Solve the equation for the indicated variable. 1/b +1/3 =1/s for s

Solve the equation for the indicated variable.

1/b +1/3 =1/s

for s

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given equation is .

We have to solve this equation for the variable "s". All we have to do is simple algebra, just simplification on the left hand side and reciprocal of it gives the required 's'.

Simplification:

The L.C.M of '3' & 'b' will be their product ('3b') in this case. The numerator of 'b' gets multiplied by '3' and the numerator of '3' gets multiplied by'b'.

Now, both sides have a single fraction i.e., in the form of . So, the reciprocal (reversing the fractions, ) on both sides of the equation gives us 's'.

Therefore, the given equation   when solved for "s" gives  .
