“A protein’s function and control is determined by its structure.” Critically discuss this statement, with a focus on how the use of computers and databases can be used to better understand how a protein works in a cell.
Question
The protein consist of 4 levels of structure. The primary level is primary, secondary, tertiary and Quaternary structure. The protein specific shape relate to its function. The function of the protein is dependent on the specific 3D structure of the protein. If it's structure is denatured, it will lead to loss of the function of protein.
The database and computer play an important role in understanding the relation between structure and function of the protein. Many proteins are of long amino acid sequence that are difficult to analyze in-vitro. Therefore, storing of sequence lead lot of space and that space is provided by the databases created in the computer. When the sequence and structure of the protein are stored, it make easy for the researchers to analyze the structure and function of the protein and the relationship between them. The development of super -computer further easy the analysis as they have lot of space and high speed to perform the analysis.
