Answer
There are various factors influencing the joist spacing on centre
(O.C ) as given below
DEPTH OF
STRUCTURAL MEMBERS
Depth provided for structural members is most valid point. If the
depth of the member is related to joist spacing of 24 inches O.C
,then the provided spacing will be very strong and having more
stiffness.
FIBRE STRESS IN
STRUCTURAL MEMBERS
fibre stress in bending in structural members will play vital role
in joist spacing. Joists and rafters will subjected to bend when
external load is acting on beam there by top fibre of the beam will
go under compression force and bottom layers will take tension
force. But neutral layers won’t take any force. So that the fibre
stress is more in the beam then the beam may not go for
failure.
MODULUS OF
ELASTICITY(E)the
modulus of elasticity is also major factor in joist spacing which
is less than 24 inches to O.C. we will calculate the E value by
taking stress induced in the body to strain developed in the body
(deformation). So that if the E value is more than the beam has
more strength. The grade of the members which has been used is also
gives a more strength if grade is higher.
These are the three major factors that influence the joist spacing which is less than 24 inches on centre (O.C)
