Solutions

Expert Solution

The experimental method is an important method that has been used in the field of learning. From Pavlov to Skinner to Tolman, all utilized the experimental method. The experimental method has been used specially for non human subjects. It has led to the development of the theories of Classical Conditioning, Latent learning and Operant Conditioning. Skinner used the the Skinner box to experimentally test the lever pressing behavior in response to reinforcement in a variety of animals. Pavlov experimentally studied the salivation in dogs in response to the sounding of the bell. Tolman experimentally demonstrated latent learning in rats by asking them to run mazes. The experimental method can be used equally well with human subjects as well. However, certain ethical considerations need to be fulfilled. These include informed consent, debriefing, beneficence and the right to withdraw participation.
