Solutions

Expert Solution

Total number of students = 386

A) Number of students who are finance major and a male

= 59

So, probabality of the selected students finance major and male is

= Number of students who are finance major and male / total students

= 59 / 386

= 0.1528 or 15.28%

B)

probabality of the selected students administration major or finance major

= P( administration major or finance major )

= (131 +120) / 386

= 251 / 386

= 0.6502 or 65.02%

C)

P(administration major) = 131 / 386

P(female) = 225 / 386

P(administration major and female ) = 91/386

So, probabality that selected student is an administration major or a female

= P(administration major or female)

= P(administration major) + P(female) - P(administration major and female)

= (131/386) + (225/386) - ( 91/386)

= 265 / 386

= 0.6865 or 68.65%

D)

P(finance major and male) = 59 / 386

P(male) = 161 / 386

So, probabality that selected student is finance major, given he is a male

= P( finance major | male )

= P(finance major and male ) / P(male)

= 59/161

= 0.3664 or 36.64%
