What is the mean effective pressure?
Ans: Mean effective pressure is defined as the ratio of total work developed by an engine (Device) to the volume swept. It is related to reciprocating engines and is used to measure an engines capacity to do work which is independent of its piston displacement.
Mathematically:
What is the kinematic energy correlation factor?
Ans: In real fluid flow, there is viscous effects in between the layers of fluid due to which boundary layer is formed and velocity within this boundary layer varies with distance from surface. Now, if we use average velocity to find the Kinetic energy of flow, the results will not be for actual case. So, we use a factor called kinetic energy correction factor which when multiplied by the Kinetic energy calculated with average velocity gives the actual result.
Mathematically, Kinetic Energy Correction Factor denoted by is:
Where, u is velocity of an elementary cross sectional area ds at any distance x from free surface and V is the average velocity of flow, S is total cross sectional area of flow.
What iscentropic?
Ans: Iscentropic is a way of executing a process from an initial state to a final state such that the entropy at both the state is same. A reversible adiabatic process is always Isentropic process. For an Isentropic process .
What is intercooling?
Ans: Intercooling is generally related with multistage compressors. In between different stages of compression the exhaust gas is cooled before it is delivered for next stage compression. This is done to make a process as Isothermal as much as possible and reduce the work required for compression. For perfect intercooling or minimum work, the temperature after cooling equals to the temperature at the begining of compression.
