Let's understand the difference between Lan and Wan in a simple way:-

LAN stands for local area network suppose you have a printer and many other devices to connect with your computer then you will connect it by using LAN.LAN is useful in connecting device withing the same building or same site.

Whereas

WAN stands for wide area network, suppose you have your own company which has branch offices in different countries then all the branches of your companies present at a different location is connected by WAN.

In LAN computer and devices are physically connected but in the case of WAn devices and computers are not physically connected.

In LAN it is limited to small geographical areas whereas in WAN it covers larger geographical areas.

Cost of LAN is low as compare to WAN.

In LAN ethernet card is used whereas in WAN modem is used.

The error rate of LAN is negligible but In case of WAN, the error rate is high.
