Solutions

Expert Solution

5G wireless networks would be supported by CDMA, OFDM, MC-CDMA, UWB, and IPv6. Explanation about the terminologies in relation to 5G:

5th Generation (5G) wireless cellular network technology improves and enhances cellular data transfer faster than the fastest fiber-optic networks, using new specified 5G frequency bands to operate. It supports and operates with 26, 28, 38 & 60 GHz millimeter wave bands. 5G offers a speed of 20Gbps. The single global standard will be called 5G-NR. 5G provides greater speed to move more data, lower latency to be more responsive, and can connect many devices at once for sensors and smart devices purposes.

5G offers better broadband bandwidth, capacity, and reliability much better than 4G. 5G wireless frequency bands available and ready for use in the USA are 3100 – 3550 MHz and 3700 – 4200 MHz.

CDMA is the acronym for Code Division Multiple Access. The CDMA will still exist in areas where 2G or 3G networks are still being used. New mobile phones which support 4G and 5G in the future may not support CDMA networks. However, as of now, there are carriers and mobile phones that support, CDMA, GSM such as 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G. CDMA is one of the 2G and 3G technologies, which is the first generation of digital cellular technologies.

OFDM is the acronym for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing. It is a technique to transmit large amounts of digital data over a radio wave. It splits the radio signal into multiple smaller sub-signals transmitted simultaneously at different frequencies to the receiver. There is a general framework presented for OFDM 5G cellular wireless access networks. OFDM actually inspired waveforms for 5G. 5G uses OFDM. Cyclic Prefix OFDM (CP-OFDM) is used in 5G NR downlink. Hence, the waveform adopted for the 5G New Radio (NR) is based on OFDM, however with updates to that used with LTE.

MC-CDMA is the acronym for Multi‐Carrier Code Division Multiple Accesses. 5G uses a unique chaotic spreading sequence‐based MC‐CDMA. It is meant for the future generation of mobile communication.

5G technologies combine different current existing and future wireless network technologies such as IPv6, OFDM, MC-CDMA making sure there is freedom of movement and seamless switches from one technology to another.

UWB is the acronym for Ultra Wide-Band. It is a radio technology with a very low energy level for short-range, high-bandwidth communications over a large portion of the radio spectrum. 5G UWB networks or mobility service can reach a speed of up to 600 Mbps. 5G UWB technology uses new radio technology and device hardware delivering advanced capabilities to users and businesses. UWB provides users access to very high speeds and the streaming, augmented reality, gaming, and consumer and business applications by 5G. It provides power, speed, and connectivity. It provides download speeds faster than 4G LTE with increased bandwidth capacity wherein, more users can use more data at the same location. 5G Ultra Wideband are networks which different carriers in the world provide services to their customers.

IPv6 is the acronym for Internet Protocol version 6. It is the system of IP addresses using 128-bit addresses. It is the latest IP protocol after IPv4 version 4. There is an importance of IPv6 in 5G wireless technology. IPv6 will have a place in 5G, the reason being the Internet of Things (IoT), adding billions of devices to this 5G mobile network, IPv6 can manage the number of unique IP addresses required for all these devices. This will require one to upgrade to IPv6. There would be IPv6bBased 5G mobile wireless networks. It will converge 5G features into the end-to-end IPv6 layer.
