What happens when one base pair of DNA is lost from the coding region of a gene because of mutation? First explain how this would affect the mRNA sequence, and second, explain how this would alter the amino acid of the protein that is encoded.
If one base pair is mutated from the coding strand of DNA in coding region of gene, then mRNA has also this mutation. There is not found corresponding nucleotide in mRNA. This leads to change the sequence of all codon after that point of mutation. This is an example of frame shift mutation. In this mutation whole frame of codon is changed.
The protein sequence after this point of mutation is completely changed. Because of the change in codon sequence in mRNA. The non functional protein is produced in this case.
