Differentiate between anatomical, alveolar and physiological dead space.
Anatomical dead space:
the total volume of the air passing from the nose and mouth to the lungs, these air not participate in the gas exchange
it is found to be 150ml for an average person.
Alveolar dead space:
it is the total volume of air in certain alveoli which are ventilated but these alveoli are not puperfused. So no gas exchange occurred
physiological dead space:
it is also called as total dead space.
it is the sum of the above
that is the sum of anatomic head space and alveolar dead space
