It is a small noncoding RNA molecule which is of about 22 nucleotides in length. It is found in animals, plants, and some viruses.
It functions in RNA silencing and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression.
Small interfering RNA (siRNA):
It is a class of double stranded RNA molecules which is of 20-25 base pairs in length. It is similar to miRNA, and operates within the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway.
It interferes with the expression of specific genes with complementary nucleotide sequences by degrading mRNA after transcription, resulting in no translation.
