What is the difference between cerebral thrombosis versus cerebral ischemia?
Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.
It is a condition where blood clot forms in the dural venous sinuses which causes drain blood from the brain.In this condition blood clots are formed in both superficial veins and venous sinuses.
Causes- chronic inflammatory diseases, thrombophilia, nephrotic syndrome,sickle cell anaemia, dehydration,during pregnancy and having medical procedure in head and neck.
Symptoms-Most common symptom is headache.Some may have weakness on one side of the face, seizures, difficulty speaking, abnormal posture,rise in blood pressure.
Cerebral ischemia is a condition where brain does not have enough blood supply so that it meet upto metabolic demand this causes cerebral hypoxia. Cerebral ischemia is also caused by compression of blood vessels.
Causes- several conditions are linked with this disease which include sickle cell anemia,blood clots, ventricular tachycardia,low blood pressure,blockage of arteries,heart attack, congenital heart diseases.
Symptoms-dizziness, weakness in one side of face,double vision,vertigo,loss of coordination,slurred speccs, difficulty in speaking etc.
