Discuss the meaning of Wilfred Owens' poem "Strange Meeting".
"Strange Meeting" is a poem by Wilfred Owen.
The poem is narrated by a soldier who goes to the underworld to escape the hell of the battlefield and there he meets the enemy soldier he killed the day before.
This poem has been meant as one of Owen's "most haunting and complex war poems".
What is the relationship between the two soldiers?
In "Strange Meeting," Owen very much wants to show that the soldiers fighting on the German side are really no different to those who, like himself, are fighting for the British Army.
Why do you think Owen's portrays it this way?
He portrays it in this way because soldiers on both sides are same, situations for both side soldiers are also same. Moreover, they are all stuck in the same "Hell" of war.
What is the significance of the poem's title?
The poem is narrated by a soldier who goes to the underworld to escape the hell of the battlefield and there he meets the enemy soldier he killed the day before. Meeting a dead soldier conveys the idea of a "strange meeting".
