In: Nursing
While discussing the increased use of technology to gather, store, and access healthcare information, senior nursing students discuss the importance of preventing data security breaches and the implication of such breaches on nurses professionally. The class is divided into groups to research and prepare information on various relevant topics to present to the entire class.
Part 2
Nursing education is adopting e-learning and simulation experiences for the students. Two junior-level nursing students, Gene and Linda, are discussing the merits of this type of nursing-focused learning.
1. Ethical aspects of electronic data collection in nursing
The electronic data collection means collection and storage of client related informations in the digital form.It is an useful measure for remote accessing and ensure qaulity healthcare.
Ethical aspects
1. Data privacy and confidentiality: All information related to the client should be kept confidential. It should not be used for any other pupose without client permission other than treatment. Permit only authorized person to access data.
2. Security breaches.
It is unethical making it Available for others like for research, third party acesslike insurance companies.Get permission from the client before taking client information for other purposes. create password or identity number to prevent free access.
3. System management.
The data storage system must be capable, to store all information related to clients. The institution prevent interferences by installing anti-malware softwares.
4. Data inaccuracies
Data inaccuracies is unethical.Beacause It create root for malpractice and negligence. The nurses should be trained about system management. The data must provide full information, treatment details, investigations. The client realted informations should be updated daily. Should not practice cut and paste. Be cautious while transfering data from one to other area, beacuse there is an increase chances of data error.

Pros and cons of E-Learning
In E-learning , learning takes place through electronic media.
Pro's | Con's |
more flexible , self centerd Promote wide range of knowledge acqusition. The student can access large volume of study content through socal network Cost effective Less manpower is enough Multilinguistic, mutlicultural, multinational students can participate in a same group. So sharing of knowledge and ideas become wide.Students get wide experience. Effective method during emergency situations like pandemic. |
Physical stress, mental fatigue, Computer vision syndrome. solving doubt may not be possible. some times students need to wait for long time to get answer or feed back. Teaching laboratory procedure, interpretation and skill training are difficult and it may not produce desired effect. poor students, lag again Periodic assessment and evaluation is difficult. plagiarism become more. |
Different types of simulators
High fidelity simulators - this simulator resembles real life situations. Simulators are programmed with different scenarios. These simulators are more realistic, having original outward appearance, reacts to external response. Eg. When the student is committing a mistake on selecting a mode of defibrillation, the simulator provide direction to select a right one or pointout a mistake. It is highly useful to practice invasive procedures, critical care nursing procedure.
Low fidelity simulators.
These simulators, will not react to response. It is useful for learning and practicing procedures for the beginers. Dummy, replicas.
Real simulators with patients
Patients are selected acoording to the learning task assigned/ learning objectives. Patient act as a simulator and provide feed back .For eg. The students want to learn about pneumonia, a patient with pneumnia with positive respiratory symptoms will be selected.
