Anti diuretic hormone (ADH)

  • Anti diuretic hormone (ADH) is a peptide hormone synthesized by pituitary gland , which help in preventing dilute urine.
  • It is synthesized in hypothalamus and secreted by posterior pituitary gland.
  • It is released in response to hypertonicity of blood.It increases blood pressure through vasoconstriction.
  • ADH make DCT and collecting tubule more permeable to water, hence directly increases water reabsorption.
  • ADH is also known as vasopressin.

Blood pressure

  • It is the pressure of circulating blood on the walls of blood vessel.
  • Pressure occur due to pumping of blood from the heart through circulatory system.
  • There are two type of blood pressure , they are systolic blood pressure( first value) and diastolic blood pressure (second). Eg : blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg.
  • Ideal blood pressure is considered to be between 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmHg
  • High blood pressure is considered to be 140/90mmHg or higher
  • Low blood pressure is considered to be 90/60mmHg or lower
  • High blood pressure is due unhealthy lifestyle.
  • Angiotensin II is a powerful vasoconstricter , which increases glomerular filtration rate by increasing blood pressure.
