Imagine that you are a well-known blogger. You like to create
blogs that are designed to educate your readers about
abnormal psychology. For this assignment, you will write your next
blog.
In your blog posting, please cover the following.
Introduce Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5), along with at least two other diagnostic tools.
Remember that your readers have never heard of DSM-5, so you need
to explain in your own words how this manual is used.
Introduce and explain the topic of cultural competency to your readers so that they know how psychology aims to be inclusive and account for cultural differences.

1. Explain what DSM-V is, how it was developed, who proposed it (APA), the revisions it underwent, why was it introduced.
2. Then talk about what it consists of, how detailed is it and how is it beneficial to the medical and psychological domains.
3. Talk about other alternatives- ICD-11 (WHO), Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual,Research Domain Criteria. Give a brief summary of them.
4. Talk about the difference between DSM-5 & ICD-11 and how both are essential in diagnosis.
5. Give a detailed explanation on how DSM-5 is used by a clinician to arrive at a diagnosis- case history, mse, assessment, criteria, psychodiagnostic formulation.
6. Talk about the professionals who use DSM-5 criteria- psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, counselors, psychiatric social workers etc.
7. Describe what cultural competency means, why is it beneficial, what are the drawbacks that occur when a therapist or psychology professional is not culturally competent and deals with clients from other cultures.
