Has the Economic and Political sectors in the state of Utah been assimilated by the sentiments of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints (Mormons) religious beliefs? If so, I wonder not only how it affects Utah’s Economic related well-being, but how the LDS religion affects the entire culture of the state of Utah?
The initial discovery of Utah by an American was in 1824. The actual history of modern Utah began in 1847 with the advent of the members of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints ( Mormons). With the acquisition of the region by the U.S at the finish of the Mexican combat , the Mormon settlers began applying for statehood. This materialized only in 1896 with the Church's abandonment of polygamy.
More than 3/4ths of the populace of Utah reside in the hundred mile strip from Ogden to Provo which incorporates Salt Lake City. The remaining of Utah is thinly settled & a great proportion is owned by the state. Overall the Federal & State Government of Utah own nearly 70% of Utah.
Farming is highly dependent on irrigation & 3/4ths of the income in agriculture emanate stock raising. Mineral production, especially of rare metals like gold, uranium and beryllium, is essential. Printing, software & high technology manufacturing are also essential. Salt Lake City is a transport center & a local market city.
About 2 out of 3 of the persons of Utah are Mormon & the Church plays an essential role in the cultural & political life. This shows up in the comparatively strong importance given to education . Liquor vending is restricted & gambling is banned.
Utah is growing fast & this is lessening the Mormon influence. Salt Lake City was chosen to host the Olympic Games ( 2002).
In the twenty first century the economy of Salt Lake City has been performing very well.
