Q: What does substance abuse mean to you and why do you want to educate your peers about substance abuse?
Answer in 200 words or above, much appreciated for the ideas.
Substance abuse is the persistent harmful use of drugs such as alcohol, heroine, cocaine, psychedelic drugs like magic mushrooms, LSD,etc. Different factors can cause substance abuse. Adolescents can see someone in their family and get influenced, or they can start substance abuse due to peer pressure. Some people can fall in the trap of substance abuse due to emotional stresses caused by family, or social factors, as it can give a sense of escape from the reality. People suffering from mental health disorders are also vulnerable to substance abuse. Some drugs are highly addictive and only few times uses of such drugs can lead to addiction and lead to substance abuse on a regular basis. Substance abuse does not only cause harm to our body and health but it also affects the close and social relationships with others. It also puts an emotional and sometimes financial burden on people who are involved in substance abuse as well as their family members. Once addicted, an abuser has to feed his/her addiction no matter what, as they have desperate urges, this makes them spend a lot of money which can be used for other meaningful purposes. The physical affects of drug abuse hinders the cognitive skills and this results in struggle at work places which in turn affect the livelihood of the abuser and those who are dependent on the such as their children and family. There are no benefits related to substance abuse but only harms. It may provide a temporary state of euphoria, may give a sense of escape and detachment from regular reality, or a sense of adventure but all of these are just temporary and in return of all these effects it makes a person feel much worse when the effects of drug subside. And with the persistent use the body starts developing tolerance and that cause the amount of drugs needed for the same effect to rise. Substance abuse have a constant risk of overdose and death caused by it. It is a life threatening issue. No one should be doing it, there is no good in it, therefore i would educate and warn my peers about all the causes, disadvantages and threats related to substance abuse.
