Write a short essay about the very integral of miniaturization in information Technology highlighting the advantages and disadvantages, if any that the concept has brought along into the domain of information technology. you may include issues of speed, affordability and access to other technological innovations occasioned by miniaturization.
Miniaturization Of Information Technology
The concept behind technological miniaturization is "the smaller the better";smaller is faster, smaller is cheaper, smaller is more profitable.Devices such as PCs,cellular telephones, portable radios and other such devices have created massive markets through miniaturization. The aim of miniaturization is to make these devices smaller and more powerful and available everywhere.
The continuous miniaturization of technology will among other things make technology more accessible to everyone. This is due to the fact that as technology gets smaller, it uses less resource to manufacture them and hence cause a reduction in the production cost. This in turn, causes a reduction in the selling cost, making it cheaper and more accessible to everyone.Another advantage is that as devices become smaller, they will consume very little power thus making them energy efficient.
Miniaturization, although can be a great benefit for the society, also has its downsides. The challenges include cost-expensive, data inaccuracy, software unreliability and information overload. One big downside is invasion of privacy and identity theft. As small sized spy cams and other such devices have been developed, privacy invasion crimes have been on a rise. Another problem is due to decrease in size of devices, there is increased ability to lose one's electronic devices or have them stolen. Thus portability also has a downside.
Note:You may also include some examples of modern day devices in contrast to their older counterparts.
