Problem 2: [5 pts.] Health researchers believe that the neonatal mortality rate is higher at home (MRH) than that in the health centers (MRC). The neonatal mortality rates (both MRH and MRC) for 20 countries are recorded in SSPS file .

  1. Do the data support researchers’ beliefs? Use α=0.05.
  2. Find a 95% confidence interval to investigate the researchers’ belief and explain its meaning.
  3. Check the assumptions of the above procedure.

Expert Solution

For this we use t test for two sample test since sample size n=20 which is less than 29 (small two sample test is used).

Below is the output of SPSS of t-test for two sample

Based on alpha =0.05 , we got p value =0.169 > .05 we accept Ho

Ho (Null Hypothesis) : The neonatal mortality rate is less  at home (MRH) than that in the health centers (MRC).

v/s H1 : (Alternative Hypothesis): The neonatal mortality rate is higher  at home (MRH) than that in the health centers (MRC).

There we conclude that The neonatal mortality rate is less  at home (MRH) than that in the health centers (MRC) at alpha = 5% level of confidence.

Researchers believe that a higher percentage of males are afflicted with cysturina than females. Suppose of the 50 individuals, 15 were females and the remainder were males. Using 99% confidence, estimate the proportion of females with cysturina. Then estimate the proportion of females afflicted with cysturina at 96% confidence.

Problem #3 Faith and Healing. A higher percentage of southerners believe in God and prayer, according to a 1998 study by the University of North Carolina’s Institute for Research in Social Science. The survey was conducted by means of telephone interviews with 844 adults in 12 southern states and 413 adults in other states. One of the findings was that 46% of southerners believe they have been healed by prayer, compared with 28% of others. Assume that the results of...
