identify the 3 fundamental processes
of memory
The three fundamental processes of
memory are:
- Memory encoding:
encoding is the first step in acquisition of memory or in creation
of a new memory. As a result of encoding, the item in which the
person is interested in, will be toured in the brain with some form
of associations. When memory gets encoded, it gets converted in a
form of construct.
- Memory storage:
storage of memory is a passive processwhere information is
retained. This may be retained in the form of sensory memory or the
short term memory. This may also be in the form of long term
memory. All these stages would be functioning as filters that would
help in protect in overload of information. If information is
repeated or used again and again, it gets retained in the long term
memory.
- Memory retrieval:
retrieval is when a person would reaccess the information or events
that he has already stored as information when it was encoded. In
common terms, it is also referred to as remembering. During
retrieval, a person would be replaying the information that they
have in their mind, resulting in an echoing of the real event.
